St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) was conceived in 2011, when Rev. Fr. Dr . John Felix Raj, S.J., along with the members of the St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, envisaged ‘SXC Vision 2020’, which encompassed the establishment of St. Xavier’s University. The university was established with a desire to deepen human understanding and create an excellent platform for teaching, scholarship and research and, thus, create a pool of ethically aware and sensitive citizens. In 2012, when the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, graced the Convocation of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, she proposed that the college be upgraded to the status of a University or a separate university be established under the Jesuit banner. The Government of West Bengal extended its valuable support to the Jesuits by granting 17 acres of land for the St. Xavier’s University campus to be built at New Town. The university is widely recognised as an important centre and destination for the young citizens of India who are eager to learn and create and for faculty and researchers committed to the values of scholarship and cooperation. Over past 6 years, the university has created a name for itself in the field of education in the country and across the world.
Xavier Business School (XBS), a proud constituent of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, and a member of the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI), offers a dynamic and industry-aligned management education rooted in Jesuit values. Established in 2018, XBS runs a two-year full-time AICTE-approved MBA programme with specialisations in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Business Analytics. Guided by the Jesuit motto ‘Nihil Ultra’ (Nothing Beyond), the school is committed to excellence in academics, ethical leadership, and social responsibility.
The curriculum is designed to bridge theory with practice, supported by experiential learning through G-Talks, panel discussions, workshops, and industry-driven seminars. Our students benefit from a strong mentorship culture and the expertise of a faculty team comprising both seasoned academicians and industry professionals. Recognising its academic rigour and relevance, the MBA programme has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for 2025–2028. To further its mission of accessible and continuous learning, XBS introduced its Executive MBA Programme in 2024, tailored for working professionals. Conducted over weekends, this programme enables learners to enhance their skills and leadership capabilities without interrupting their careers. Beyond academics, XBS fosters a holistic development environment where students cultivate social intelligence, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity—essential traits for today’s global business landscape.
